Guiding Statement
At Shining Star Waldorf School we practice empathy, collaboration, and critical thinking. We are committed to preparing our students for the diverse world in which we live and teaching in a responsive way. We acknowledge that there are many harmful patterns of discrimination, violence and bias that exist. In order to educate our children in freedom and love we strive to interrupt and heal these patterns. We welcome people of all spiritual beliefs, religious practices, races, abilities, gender identities, sexual orientations, countries of origin, and socio-economic statuses, and we support all family structures.
Waldorf education espouses principles of respect for human dignity. Any narratives or indications made by Rudolf Steiner that are in contradiction to these principles are not the basis for Waldorf education at Shining Star Waldorf School and we unequivocally denounce such statements.
We are committed to being an anti-racist and anti-bias school in culture and in teaching. Moment by moment we are learning ways to better create an equity-centered community and learning environment. We ask every member of our community to support and engage in this essential work. Your contributions and dialogue are needed for us to move forward. Together, we must reimagine and help build a culture and world where everyone can thrive.
Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee
Our school is committed to ever expanding our collective community learning and practice around social justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion. Any member of our community (a parent/guardian of a child currently enrolled at Shining Star Waldorf School, board members, faculty or staff member) is welcome to attend a JEDI meeting at any time, without any expectation that they will continue to attend meetings.
